Better way to do it? PCI express card with SATA ports?.What cable would I get to create this connection?.I’ve read that not using HP drives on Proliant can be finicky but I thought if I just get the cable and test one hard drive on it then I can see if it would work. (2 320GB WD Blues, just my home lab.) So it will run on SATA, but unless you run the enterprise SATA I wouldn't recommend using for a production server. ServerParts4Less offers a 90 Day Warranty. One thought I had was to simply buy an enclosure for the drives like this one ( KingWin 5.25" Tray-Less SATA Mobile Rack for 5 x 3.5" HDD (MKS-535TL)) since it has a cable for each individual drive, power them through the enclosure, then just get some kind of cable converter from SATA to SAS and plug them in. Now when OMV is running, fans run at full speed.
I changed the drives to 1TB, also I had to do the upgrade firmware and bios. Between reboots, absolutely random in time and frequency, the controller dropped some drives, sometimes. As I read, the embedded controller (P410i) supports SATA, so it should be no problem. The problem begins when trying to replace it's SAS drives with 4 SATA SSDs. fans was heard only when I start the server. I have a D元60 G6 server which I want to repurpose as some sort of sandbox.
I have 5 WD 4TB 3.5" Hard drives I could use but I have no idea how to plug them in. I installed on the HP ProLiant D元60 G6 latest OMV.
